ardiac myxoma is known to show clinical manifestations such as constitutional disturbance, embolization, valvular stenosis and regurgitation, congestive heart failure and
arrhythmia. Constitutional disturbance with myxoma includes fever, anemia, weight loss,
arthralgia, Raynaud phenomenon, increased ESR, increased immunoglobulin G and fibrinogen,
positive antinuclear Ab, and positive indirect Coombs's test.
We presented a case of left atrial myxoma with increased IL-6 level.
M-mode echocardiography revealed the tumor echoes behind the anterior leaflet of the
mitral valve during diastole. Transesophageal echocardiography revealed a large left atrial
myxoma inserting at the interatrial septum.
Complete tumor resection was performed, and the resected tumor was 4¡¿4¡¿3 cm in size.
The serum and myxoma cell IL-6 level, detected by means of the ELISA method with
antihuman IL-6 monoclonal antibody, were 256u/ml and 8.343u/ml.
